Graduate Aptitude Test for Engineering (GATE) is an all India examination conducted by the IIS (Indian Institute of science and its seven institutes of Technology behalf of National Coordination Board, Government of India.
GATE examination is required for : Admission to Various post Graduate programs with MHRD and some other Government Scholarships/assistantships/JOBS in Engineering Colleges/Institutes are open only who qualify in the GATE examination. Hence to avail this facilities students should qualify the GATE examination and should get admission to post graduate program as per the prevailing procedure of the admitting institution.
Eligibility for GATE examination:
Any Engineering Graduate who completed or who are in last year are eligible to apply OR Post B.Sc/post diploma holders of Engineering are also eligible to apply OR Master’s degree holders in any branch of Science/Mathematics/ Statistics/Computer Applications or equivalent and those who are in the final year of such programs OR candidates of Five year integrated master degree program and dual degree holders are also eligible.
AMIE Institute of Engineers AND AMICE by Institute of Civil Engineers are also eligible to apply for GATE 2012: Those who have completed section A or equivalent of such professional courses are also eligible.
Candidates with backlog for appearing in GATE examination: Candidates with a backlog of papers should submit a copy of the marks sheet of final semester / final year or copy of the course completion certificate or a letter from the principal indicating that the student has a backlog and will be completing the degree in 2012. OR Duly filled-in Application with appropriate enclosures must be sent by Speed Post (preferably) or by Registered Post to The Chairman, GATE of the Zone corresponding to the 1st Choice of Examination City, so as to reach on or before Monday, 24th October, 2011 OR It can be handed over personally to the respective Zonal GATE Office on or before Monday, 24th October, 2011.
Examination cities for GATE 2012: The choice of the examination city depends on the examination type (online / offline examination). Important DATES for submission and GATE 2012 Examination schedule: Commence of online application: Monday , 12th September 2011.
Last date for submission of online application: 17 October 2011.
Last date for getting printed version of application is 24 October 2011.
Examination schedule for GATE 2012: GATE 2012 Examination will include both ONLINE and OFFLINE examinations as per the following schedule:
Online: 29 January 2012 (Sunday): 09:00 to 12:00
AR, GG and TF and from 14:00 Hrs to 17:00 Hrs
AE, AG and MN
Offline: 12 February 2012 (Sunday)09:00 Hrs to 12:00 Hrs BT, CE, CH, CS, ME, PH and PI and 14:00 Hrs to 17:00 Hrs CY, EC, EE, IN, MA, MT, XE and XL.
Results of GATE 2012: The results of GATE 2012 will be announced on 15 march 2012 and it will be available in all the website of IIS and IIT websites.
Change of exam center for GATE 2012: After the submission of application, requests for change of examination city will be accepted till December 30, 2011 with a fee of Rs.400/- to be paid in the form of demand draft to the respective zonal GATE office.
